About the Annual Regional BDS Conference and Training
For over a decade, development practitioners, entrepreneurs and policy makers have been meeting at the Annual Regional BDS Conference to reflect on growth of the markets, emerging opportunities and progress towards realization of development goals in the Eastern African region. The conference has grown into a platform where participants forge partnerships, share lessons and successes and contribute to the development agenda in the region. The training aspect of the conference offers an opportunity for development practitioners to develop or update their knowledge and skills in markets systems development, facilitation, results management and explore potential for collaboration with other players in the development and business sectors.

Phase One: Training in Making Markets Work for the Poor (19th -20th November 2018)
The two days training programme will be practice based with a heavy reliance on case studies from successful development projects and business models but strongly anchored on market development theory and principles.
The training will be structured to accommodate the needs of entry level practitioners as well as more experienced practitioners through a modular structure that allows the participants to choose particular modules depending on their interests, level of experience and functions within their organisations. During the training, participants will be taken through the market systems approach and its application in business development services.
Phase Two: Conference Sessions (21st – 23rd November 2018)
Immediately after the conclusion of the training program, three days of information sharing, discussion, and networking with professionals dedicated to inclusive economic growth will commence.
Plenary and break-out sessions will feature achievements and lessons over the last decade, bring participants up-to-date with current work, and highlight innovations that have potential to transform future work. Participants will also be exposed to the growing number of new case studies that can provide important insights into the motivation and drivers behind various business models, the role of partnerships, financing, innovation, BDS, collaboration between the public and private sectors and scalability.
